Layoff decisions tend to be made in the 4th quarter when budgets for the coming year are being finalized, and many companies worry that a drop in consumer demand will hit after holiday spending. And while employers would prefer not to mar the holidays, some feel January would be harder on employees because they more are likely to run up debt buying holiday gifts, which they can avoid if layoffs come earlier. » More
