Business Analyst Training

Business Analyst Training Information & Products

Business analyst training teaches individuals how to act as liaisons between the business community and software designers to help create software applications that are cost effective and efficient for various companies. A business analyst assesses a company's computer use and works with programmers to develop programs to suite the company's needs or resolve any business problems they are having as a result of inadequate software. They also look for business processes that could be automated or handled more efficiently with IT support. An analyst then facilitates the integration of the new software, or technology, and monitors its success.

Business analyst training is ideal for quality assurance professionals, systems analysts, IT project managers, self-taught business analysts, and programmers looking to take their career in a new direction. People with good analytical and problem solving abilities, and strong interpersonal and negotiating skills, may also enjoy working as a business analyst. Business analysts also need to be able to manage their time wisely, work towards deadlines and communicate clearly through written documents. For the most part, business analyst training doesn't have any specific prerequisites. A basic knowledge of business and the business community can be an asset, as can previous experience in the IT industry and familiarity with existing computer systems like PC, Mainframe and LAN.

Colleges and universities offer business analyst training courses independently or as part of a larger degree program. Business analyst training is also available through various technical schools that may offer courses on campus or online. Four day crash courses and weekend seminars are also offered, but tend to be geared more towards self taught analysts who want to improve their skills, or others who already have a strong background as either a programmer or a business manager. Business analyst training can take anywhere from a few days to several months to complete depending on how comprehensive the course is and who is offering it. Some courses will offer formal certification as a business analyst or a certificate of completion as part of the class. Before taking part in any training program investigate the qualifications of the instructor offering the course. If possible, meet with students who have already completed the program to see if they feel it prepared them adequately to work as a business analyst.

Most business analyst courses will focus on a combination of lectures and theory work and provide opportunities for students to practice what they've learned. This practice may come in the form of examining case studies, doing practice exercises or being paired with an actual business for a project. Business analysts define their work in terms of projects so a typical training course will teach students how to initiate projects, conduct feasibility studies, model and analyse business activities and develop requirements. Students will learn how to use various analysis tools and methods, and learn to develop creative problem solving techniques. Business training may also teach students how and when to pick off-the-shelf software for their clients rather than designing something new. Students will also become skilled in creating business cases which outline how new software and other business changes will be implemented in their client's workplace.
