Fitness Training Information & Products

Fitness training is about more than popping an exercise video in the VCR or lifting a few weights at the gym. Fitness training involves developing body goals and using exercise and nutrition to achieve these goals. Whether you want to lose weight, build strength, increase endurance for an upcoming marathon or charity run, or generally improve your health, a fitness program can be designed to suit your needs. In most cases, a personal trainer will work one-on-one with you to help create the program you need and motivate you.

While you may associate personal trainers with celebrities or professional athletes, this is no longer the case. In today's health-conscious society personal trainers work with anyone who wants to get in shape, and you don't have to have a professional athlete's salary to afford assistance. A qualified personal trainer can focus on your unique health concerns, ensure that you work out correctly, teach you new skills, and modify your training program if it isn't meeting your needs.

There are a number of ways to get started in fitness training. The first step is to determine what your personal fitness goals are and figure out when you'll have time to work out. Local gyms and health clubs have personal trainers available and websites have been set up in many communities to help people find fitness training close to home. If you'd prefer to work out at home, online fitness training is becoming popular with many individuals. In home programs can be created to use gym equipment you already own or no equipment at all.

Through online training a personal trainer develops your fitness program based on photos you submit of yourself and a series of questionnaires. Fitness exercises may be provided in a number of ways such as through streaming video, written and illustrated instructions, or on video or CD-ROM. Instructors stay in contact with their clients through e-mail or by phone, and will often send reminder messages to keep clients on task or ask them to submit an exercise journal to help the instructor monitor their progress. Fitness training websites also exist that provide fitness training exercises tailored to specific needs, without the assistance of a personal trainer. Many of these sites provide free information or require a membership fee.

Whether you choose an online trainer or one that you will meet with in person, check your trainer's qualifications. Personal trainers need to be certified and have to renew their certification every few years. They should also have at least basic CPR and First Aid training. Trainers can tell you where they received their training, and then you can verify the kind of training they received. Before paying for a training program be sure that you've had at least one conversation with your potential trainer. Since this is someone that you'll be sharing personal information with, you want to make sure that your trainer is someone you feel comfortable talking to and will enjoy working with.

Although some people like to train privately, the support of a buddy can be inspiring. Often personal trainers will hold group training sessions so that you can train along with a friend or spouse. Those training at home can find support through online chat groups or posting boards.
