One easy way to put the anxiety to rest is by taking part in leadership training.

Leadership training is ideal for anyone who suddenly finds themselves in a position of authority, including newly elected politicians, first time managers or supervisors, project leaders, and those about to embark on running their own business. In general leadership training helps individuals become more confident of about their role as leader by helping them improve their public speaking and communication skills. It also teaches them to judge how they are being perceived by others, shows them motivational techniques that can be used to inspire workers and helps them develop a leadership style that fits their personality. After mastering the basics of leadership people may go on take training on other topics such as dealing with employee conflicts, becoming a strategic leader, creating a team atmosphere, promoting employee accountability, or surviving organizational politics.

Choosing leadership training can be an overwhelming process. Before signing up for any specific program consider the person providing the training. What is their experience with leadership? What is their leadership philosophy and does it fit in with your own beliefs? Think about good leaders that you've encountered in your own life, and when possible, ask what training programs they'd recommend.

Leadership training is usually taught through weekend seminars or a series of classes that meet once or twice a week. If you're part of a large company your employer may already sponsor specific leadership training that you can sign up for. Leadership training can also be found by browsing through the phone book or searching on the internet. Many high profile business leaders from various companies tour the country teaching seminars and you'll likely be able to find internet websites detailing their schedules. Leadership training is also available through online learning. This usually involves reading a series of training articles and then completing short quizzes or long answer questions in which you explain how you would resolve various leadership problems. A number of web sites also offer free articles written by experienced leaders that cover topics like what makes a good leader or how to handle specific problems leaders encounter.

The methods used to teach leadership training will vary depending on the program you choose. Some instructors may deliver their program as a lecture in front of a class of students, while others may incorporate videos, role playing activities, games or case studies in their teaching. Many training supplies such as leadership manuals and activity books, games, videos and DVDs are available through online distributors for those who want to take a self-taught approach to training. Your local book store and library are also well stocked with books containing advice from successful leaders in all walks of life, from heads of major corporations or non-profit societies to former presidents.
