The fire service organization has recently inked a deal with Optibase for an advanced video over IP streaming solution that will allow it to broadcast instructional training videos directly to fire stations throughout the Portland area. The new system enhances the analog closed circuit cable system that the fire department already has in place, allowing it to broadcast directly to three fire stations that weren’t part of the analog system.
The new system is hoped to be a cost and time saving measure, as the fire department previously had to copy their training materials onto DVD and send them to the fire stations that weren’t on their analog system. Now a full time training channel can be broadcast to these stations.
"The Optibase MGW 1100 demonstrates a solid design with remarkably good video quality at the low data rates we require," explains Kent Powloski, video production manager at Portland Fire and Rescue.
Aside from using the streaming video to educate its firefighters, Portland Fire and Rescue also supplies educational streaming video for the public through its website (www.portlandonline.com/fire/). Currently the site features videos demonstrating how to prevent candle fires, bicycle helmet safety and the number one cause of fires.
Optibase offers encoding, decoding, video server upload and streaming services for businesses around the world. With a headquarters in Israel, Optibase also works out of offices in California, Japan, India, Singapore and China.
