Baseball Training

Baseball Training Information & Products

While practice is a routine part of any baseball team's schedule, baseball training gives players the opportunity to improve a specific aspect of their play or to work towards a particular goal. In most cases baseball training can take place year round rather than just during the spring and summer playing seasons. Coaches may also take part in baseball training during the off season to learn new teaching techniques or training methods to use with their team.

There are a number of reasons for seeking out a training program. Players may want to improve their stamina or physical strength as a means of becoming better runners or batters. They may be intent on winning a sports scholarship or catching the eyes of a major league scout. Some may enjoy the game and wish to spend more time playing with others who feel the same way. Regardless of what your goals are it's important to make sure that the training program you choose suits your intentions. There's no point in taking part in a highly competitive training program if your own goals aren't geared towards competition, just as there's no point in improving your pitching arm if you spend most of your time in the outfield.

Baseball training is offered through schools, camps, clinics, workshops and seminars. Workshops or seminars take place over one or two days, usually on a weekend, while camps and clinics may last a couple of weeks or for an entire summer or spring break. Schools may also take just a few weeks or may offer different programs year round. Many training programs are sponsored or designed by major league coaches and players, and often employ professional or Olympic level players as trainers. Before taking part in any program check the credentials of the instructors to ensure that they have the education and experience needed to provide the training they advertise. Your local baseball league or municipal recreation department will likely have training programs that they can recommend. Various websites can also help you find training programs to suit your needs locally or in other parts of the country.

Aside from having different goals, training programs also divide participants into sections based on age or skill level. Training is available for children as young as 4 or 5 years old all the way up to adulthood, and at skill levels ranked anywhere from beginner up to those with professional experience. Training programs can also focus specifically on a particular position on the field such as outfielder, infielder, batter or pitcher.

If you're interested in taking an independent approach to training a large variety of books, videos and DVDs can be found online or at local stores to help your improve at different aspects of the game. Many professional players and coaches offer training advice or exercises through their websites, either for free or based on a monthly subscription rate. Certain hydraulic resistance exercise equipment can be purchased or used at the gym to help players build strength and become more physically fit. As well, a number of online distributors sell hitting tees, pitching machines and other equipment that can be used to set up a baseball training area for children or adults in your own backyard.
