Wildflower Looking for Triathletes

Applications are still being accepted for the Long Course and Olympic Distance events in the 2006 Jamba Juice Wildflower Triathlon. These events, along with the already sold out Mountain Bike event, will take place from May 6-7 in Lake San Antonio, Monterey County in California.

The Wildflower is an annual triathlon event that has been taking place in California since 1983. It's currently hailed as one of the most popular triathlons in the world, with approximately 7,500 athletes competing each year, and up to 30,000 spectators attending.

Athletes face a challenging hilly course and beautiful scenery as they try to complete the swimming, biking and running portions of the competition. In the Long Course racers will swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and run 13.1 miles. Olympic Distance participants complete a course composed of a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km bike ride, and a 10 km run. Meanwhile, those taking part in the Mountain Bike event, which is intended more for beginners, will face a 0.25 mile swim, a 10 mile bike ride and a 2 mile run.

Participants in all events will be divided into categories based on their age and experience level. They may also enter as individuals or part of a team to compete in the Triathlon Club Team Competition. Specially designed medals will be awarded to all participants who cross the finish line in any event, and the top winners in each category will be awarded with medals or plaques. Those in the Professional Triathlete category will also be competing for a $40,000 cash purse courtesy of Jamba Juice.
